Following an investigation after multiple dead dogs were discovered in the garbage, a Myrtle Beach man is facing felony animal cruelty charges.

On Nov. 15, animal control officers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, were alerted to the discovery of three dead pit bulls—one adult dog and two puppies—located in a dumpster inside a plastic tub filled with feces and urine.

Following the discovery of four dead Pitbulls in a dumpster between November 15 and December 26, 2022, Myrtle Beach police have charged Raahkeem Orland Young, 33, with felony animal cruelty and failure to properly bury animals.

The crime stayed unsolved for nearly six weeks until animal control officers were called back to the same dumpster on December 26. This time, a dead 10- to 12-week-old pit bull puppy was discovered in a plastic container abandoned next to the same dumpster where the other three pups were discovered on Nov. 15. The puppy died of “illness and drowning,” according to authorities.

“Young was connected to the case after officers located a receipt discarded with a puppy on the 26th that led officers back to Young using cameras from the store and the city traffic and street cameras,” the Myrtle Beach Police Department said in a statement announcing his arrest.

Young was arrested on Jan. 7 and charged with four charges of felony animal cruelty and four counts of failure to properly bury animals. Later that day, he was released on a personal recognizance bond. A trial date has yet to be scheduled.

This is still an active investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Animal Control Unit at 843-918-1331 or e-mail [email protected]. Callers can remain anonymous. Reference Report number 22-024360 or 22-022412.
