Daisy, a Great Pyrenees and Border Collie mix became despondent and hopeless after her 7 young puppies died in a barn fire last week.

“She’s just been so sad and so heartbroken,” Daisy’s owner Christine Nelson told NBC16. “She just goes down to the barn and just sits there and tries to look for them still. She quit eating.”

Desperate to see her dog happy again, Nelson put out a plea for help. Looking for either a litter of kittens, or another young animal in need, Nelson was introduced to Deanna Murphy-Vest, whose own Border Collie had just passed away during a difficult delivery of a litter of 8 puppies.

Daisy met the 8 tiny puppies on Friday and immediately took on the role of mom.

“They are Border Collie puppies,” Nelson said. “Daisy is half Border Collie.” Nelson added that, since meeting the 8 tiny pups, Daisy is in heaven.

The Murphy-Vest family said that, although it’s hard to see the puppies go, they know it’s what’s best and “we know how our momma dog would have felt if she was in this dog’s situation.”
