With stories of dogs being shot and/or killed by police officers almost every single day in this country, this is one bill that’s getting a lot of support from pet parents and animal lovers.

House Bill 593 would require all Texas police officers to undergo at least four hours of training in dog behavior, including body language, dealing with dog aggression, and how to approach a dog.

The Bill was unanimously passed through the Texas House and is expected to easily pass the Senate as well, before being signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott.

Supporters agree that the bill not only protects dogs, but also protects officers and innocent bystanders at risk when bullets fly.

It is our hope that a similar bill be passed through each and every state. It’s about time.
