Ted Shuttleworth, a 51-year old TV screenwriter for ‘NYPD Blue’, was arrested Saturday morning from his home in Queens. Apparently, Shuttleworth, who at one time even worked with big time director, Steven Spielberg, got angry at his tiny poodle, Lola, and punched the dog in the head so hard that she died.

Lola, only weighing in at 4 1/2 pounds at 5 years old, sustained a traumatic brain injury as a result of the punch to the right side of her head.

Shuttleworth rushed the dog to a veterinarian, where her death raised suspicions. The ASPCA took the tiny poodle’s remains and will perform a necropsy.

Ted’s wife, Isadora told The New York Post it was, “… a horrible accident.”

Shuttleworth faces up to a year in prison if charged for animal cruelty.

Do you think this could possibly be the result of a horrible accident? Do you think a year in prison is sufficient punishment? Share your thoughts with us.

If the dog were a human there would be no question that he would be in jail. Why should a dog be any different?

Jail time…sure…but I agree with Isiris above…make him do a looong stint of community service at a shelter…and should not have the privilege of owning a pet. If he wants to be near animals, let him donate his time…under SUPERVISION…so he can apprepreciate them. This guy needs punishment AND rehab.

I agree that he did not get enough jail time. One year is like a slap on the wrist. It makes everybody think they can do what they want and literally get away with murder. Besides what does a 4 1/2 lb poodle do to deserve such treatment?

The guy must have issues. How could you hit a tiny poodle that hard? He should get the maximum sentence. You can’t clean it up by saying it was an accident. This something he and his wife will now have to live with. They should not be allowed to have any more dogs.

Accident? I saved a dog from continuous beatings, I even had to pay vet bills for the dog’s cut arm, from being picked up and thrown at a bob-wired fence. I had to go without for a month cause I am not rich. I didn’t care, that poor dog needed help, She is now going on 5 years old and she fits right in with my other 2 dogs and gives us so much love!!! To this day though I notice if we raise are voices, she runs to the room, or if I take her for a walk, she will not let any man touch her or me!! That guy is so stupid, and his wife is too!! Next time he could very well give her a blow to the head. I hope not but what could a poodle do to possibly deserve that type of hit.

it was not no accident, no person should beat an Animal at no cost. I dont even pop mine on the but, because if i did it would hurt me worse so how dare he do that to something so sweet as a little Poodle, God have mercy oh his soul.

If his wife still calls that an accident, she better start packing. He may accidently give her a love tap! A pup that shared it’s life with them and trusted them no less. Call the woman that just made the news about denutting a guy bare handed, she would be a good punishment for him.

Nobody **ACCIDENTALLY** balls a fist up, or **ACCIDENTALLY**punches anyone, two footed or four footed, in the head hard enough to cause trauma. A year in prison is wwwwaaaaaaaayyyyy too good for this guy.

Accident? Absolutely not! What was he doing hitting a dog in the first place. Jail time AND banning him and his family from ever adopting ANY animal again, for life. Hopefully they don’t have kids.

Accident?? I can’t imagine how this was anything BUT inhumane behavior. The human outweighed the tiny dog by at least 150 pounds, he did this in ANGER, how can it be called an accident? This man has anger issues & he took them out on a TINY dog—- a year in prison to allow him to “cool off” as well as get some therapy with regard how to better manage his anger. Poor, poor little dog, didn’t have a chance!

A year, at the minimum, and therapy, and community service in a dog shelter so he can personally experience the plight of dogs in shelters. Maybe then he’ll develop some conscience and compassion for other sentient beings.

A full grown man, punches a 4 pound pup and ends it’s life because he was angry? A year in prison? Are you kidding? He should just be beat to death.
