On Oklahoma woman and her dog are battered and bruised, but alive and well after she risked her life to keep her dog safe.
Yesterday afternoon, a category EF4 tornado devastated the town of Moore, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, leaving a debris trail as much as 2 miles wide in some parts, completely leveling thousands of homes and two elementary schools.
Elizabeth was driving to work at the Norman VA Center when she heard the tornado sirens. Instead of seeking cover, she did what many dog lovers would do – she sped home to be with her dog, Ginger.
“I turned around because I knew my dog, Ginger, was at home alone and I didn’t want any bad things to happen to her.” she told a reporter for News Channel 4 in Oklahoma City.
Elizabeth said she could see the twister and could hear it roaring as she sped home to be with her dog. She ran inside her home just as windows started shattering. “I said, ‘Oh no, you’re not gonna get me!’ and I got the dog and ran into the bathtub, threw the pillows in the bathtub, and said ‘Come on, Ginger’.” All she remembers next is hitting her head, being lifted up, and landing on top of her dog in the bathtub.
“I just cannot believe that we actually survived this thing,” she told the reporter, her dog, Ginger, lying down at her feet.
Elizabeth says some people might think that risking her life for an animal is crazy, but she doesn’t mind doing it. Her advice to others, “Whenever you have storms and stuff going on, make sure you have your animals with you because they can’t take care of themselves. They need us.”
She continued, “I’m just thankful that I’m alive and I don’t think I’m crazy for rescuing her.”
Big hugs to Elizabeth, and belly rubs for Ginger. We don’t think you’re crazy for thinking of your dog in the face of disaster – most dog lovers would do the same.

I would of done the same thing as she did. Animals depend on us, just like a child does. My dogs are my life. Sense I did not have any kids, they are my kids. I will do everything and anything to save them. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone effected by the tornado.

I think what you did was amazing! I would have done the same thing for my 4 babies. They are like my kids and I would do everything I could to protect them. I hate knowing that so many animals are either injured or have lost their lives in this terrible storm. Ginger is lucky to have you! Wish there was more people like you in this world.

I believe this woman is a true heroine and humanitarian. I wish there were more humans like this in the world. As a pet mommy to 7, I would do absolutely the same thing. Unconditional love is the way to go, and this woman displayed it to the utmost. Proud to read about her love for her baby Ginger. For those that don’t understand the love between pets and people, I feel for them. Those that are true pet lovers will absolutely understand and admire the courage of this special lady. Wishing them years and years of companionship, friendship and love.

People who don’t like animals (believe it or not, I hear there are some) just don’t get it. These precious beings are family to us. I would have done the exact same thing. They are ALWAYS there for us – be MUST be there for them, it’s what families do! So happy or you and your baby!
