August, a Golden Retriever in Oakland, Tennessee, became the oldest golden retriever in history when she turned 20 years old in April.
August was born on April 24, 2000. While many Goldens have reached well into their late-teens, ‘Augie’ is the first to ever reach the big 2-0!
Augie’s humans, Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt, adopted the senior girl from GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue when she was 14-years old. The average lifespan for Goldens is around 10-12 years, so she’d already surpassed expectations!
Although she’s the oldest known Golden retriever in history, Augie’s humans say she’s surprisingly healthy, enjoying daily walks around the yard and hanging out with her golden siblings. Diagnosed at age 14 with kidney disease, August eats a prescription diet, kidney and joint supplements, and gets sub-q fluids twice a week.
Happy Birthday, gorgeous girl!
