Investigators from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man caught on camera as he abandoned a dog along a Horizon City roadside.

On Tuesday, Joy Dominguez was driving down a Horizon City, Texas roadway when she saw an SUV that had pulled over. When a young man exited the vehicle with a Husky, it quickly became apparent he intended to abandon the dog on the roadway.

Dominguez, who is a volunteer with an animal rights group, told ABC7 she attempted to speak to the man, to explain to him that abandoning the dog was wrong. With complete disregard for the dog’s safety and well-being, the man continued. So, Dominguez called Horizon City Police and began recording video.

In the video, the man is seen removing the dog’s collar and leash. The dog appears calm, if not confused by the act. Then the man re-enters the vehicle and leaves the scene. Most heartbreaking of all, the abandoned dog runs after the SUV as it drives away.

Horizon City Police arrived at the scene and safely secured the Husky. They then turned the young, healthy, and friendly dog over to El Paso County Animal Control who have launched an investigation to determine who abandoned the dog.

In a positive turn of events, it wasn’t long before the abandoned dog has the promise of a loving home for all the days of his life. Not even 24-hours after he was callously dumped along a roadside, the Husky, now named Nanook, was adopted by a family that says he completes their family.

Authorities are asking anyone who can identify the young man or the driver of the SUV in the video to call the Sheriff’s Office at 915-832-4408 or 915-538-2185.

“These crimes against our voiceless animal victims are taken seriously and we actively seek to hold suspects accountable for these cruel acts,” a sheriff’s spokesman said in a statement Wednesday.

This makes no sense. All the police need to do is run the license plate. Why ask the public for help?

They have a clear shot of the license plate, several decent frames with the driver in the parked cars rear view mirror, and clear frames of the passenger. I think it could be very doable to catch these scumbags. I hope this video goes viral and they get them.
