Chart-topping country superstar, Emmylou Harris, is often called “The Queen of Country” after her 40-plus year career and award-winning signature songs. But now, the Queen of Country is lending her heart to another cause – dogs! The Grammy winning singer is transforming her Nashville home into an animal rescue and shelter for unwanted, homeless dogs.

TODAY reported of Emmylou Harris’ new venture,

It’s called Bonaparte’s Retreat named after the beloved dog she rescued just hours before he was to be euthanized. It was then that a bell went off in Emmylou’s huge heart, and she decided to make it her mission to save animals facing the same fate.

The songwriter currently has 29 dogs in her program, many rescued just minutes before euthanization from local animal shelters.

In this video, Emmylou tells TODAY about her inspiration, Bonaparte, and discusses how we, as dog lovers, can join together to end animal homelessness.
