Bil Jac Foods, a popular dog food manufacturer out of Medina, Ohio, has just issued their first ever dog food recall. The recall is entirely voluntary, and only applies to certain bags of their Adult Select Formula dry kibble. These bags of dry food are being withdrawn due to possible mold contamination.
As reported by DogFoodAdvisor.com,
According to a company spokesperson, the recall includes only the 6 pound package of its Bil Jac Adult Select Formula dry dog food with a lot code of 1792-02 and a Best By date of 27 December 2012.
No further information is available at this time, but Bil-Jac is in the process of informing consumers of this recall via their website. We will provide any updates as soon as available.
If you feed your dog this particular dog food, please discontinue immediately and return any unused product to the store where it was purchased. Or, make any complaints regarding the food to the FDA’s pet food complaint department here.
UPDATE: from the Bil-Jac website:
We have requested that a select number of retailers withdraw one small batch (256 cases) of 6 LB Adult Select Formula Dog Food from their warehouses and stores. We have had a few reports of mold in bags from this batch that was caused by higher moisture content in the food. We know the entire batch has not been affected, but have requested the entire small batch to be removed from warehouses and stores. Only batch number 1792-02 (Expiration 27 DEC 13) is affected, all in only 6 LB bags. Your Dog’s health is of paramount importance to us, and you can continue to trust Bil-Jac for the absolute best nutrition.
