Following a recall by Sunshine Mills, Inc., GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN’S Food Markets announced it has removed from sale Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice Dog Food due to the potential that it may contain excess Vitamin D, which may cause renal failure.
The following products are included in this recall:
- Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice Dog Food 4 lb, with Best By Dates of November 1, 2018 – November 8, 2019
- Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice Dog Food 14 lb with Best By Dates of November 1, 2018 – November 8, 2019
- Nature’s Promise Chicken & Brown Rice Dog Food 28 lb with Best By Dates of November 1, 2018 – November 8, 2019
GIANT/MARTIN’S has removed all affected product from its shelves and urges customers to return the product to their local store for a full refund.
GIANT/MARTIN’S has received no reports of illnesses to date. Customers should stop feeding the products listed above. Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Vitamin D, when consumed at very high levels, can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction. Customers with dogs who have consumed any of the products listed above and are exhibiting any of these symptoms, should contact their veterinarian.
