Police in Minnesota are urging pet owners to be careful when letting pets outside after sausage stuffed with fish hooks was thrown into a dog owner’s back yard.

Fish Hooks

The Austin Police Department in Austin, Minnesota posted a warning to pet owners after a resident reported finding sausage stuffed with fish hooks thrown over their fence and into the backyard, presumably intended to harm the family’s dog.

A post on the department’s Facebook page said officers took a report on Saturday “that someone had thrown chunks of meat with fish hooks in them into a yard of a residence in the SW. The homeowner found their dog eating the meat but it appears the dog hadn’t consumed the fish hook. Please pay close attention to your dog when it is outside.”

Area residents should take precaution, carefully checking yards and monitoring dogs while outside.
