OKC Animal Welfare, a shelter in Oklahoma City, is asking people to swing by the shelter to adopt a foil hat-wearing pup on their way to storm Area 51.

Area 51

In response to the now-viral Facebook event called “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us,” in which nearly 2 million people have promised to join in a raid on the highly classified United States Air Force facility in Nevada on September 20, to “see them aliens,” OKC Animal Welfare playfully responded with an idea of their own, suggesting people raid their shelter instead.

Or, perhaps pick up a foil hate-wearing pup to protect them from the Area 51 aliens.

OKC Animal Welfare was thrilled with the public’s response after their clever post garnered more than 11,000 shares and raised more than $2,000 in donations. The fun-loving shelter posted a follow-up, this time featuring adorable, adoptable, alien-fighting Daisy, a 4-month old Border Collie mix cruising around with a UFO on her back!

The shelter wants to continue their message that adoption isn’t that far out of this world and to encourage people to support their local shelters.

I love those shelters that come up with clever marketing to move their “merchandise.”
