A dog from Stafford County, VA finally gets her furever home after getting no inquiries since November 2022, thanks to a viral Facebook post.

According to to the Stafford County Animal Shelter, Sky is a 3 year old lab/pit mix and was surrendered to the shelter November of last year. She is the shelter’s only long term resident that hasn’t found a family yet.

And the shelter believes that the reason Sky is overlooked is because she can’t be around other dogs at home.

So, on February 27, Virginia’s Stafford County Animal Shelter’s posted a desperate plea on Facebook to find Sky a family.

The post says, “Sky hasn’t received ONE inquiry since arriving to us November last year. No one has sent an email. No one has called about her. No one asks to visit with her. We have posted her multiple times…still nothing.”

The post later went viral, amassing over 15,000 reactions and 68,000 shares on Facebook, after 7 News’ Steve Rudin gave Sky a shoutout on air.

Joe Bice, captain of the Stafford County Animal Shelter, said, “The phone has been ringing off the hook all morning, a ton of messages and so many we can’t even get back to them.”

And then on the morning of February 28, Donna Crowder, who was 2 hours away, drove to the shelter, and was waiting to adopt Sky. “We wanted to get information and see if she was still here this morning,” said Crowder.

Crowder also reveals, “We have been in the market for a dog and when they said she was good with kids, I said, ‘ok, I will make the drive’.”

Stafford County Animal Shelter later shared the good news on Facebook and explained, “She [Sky] needed a home without any other animals in it and a fenced in back yard for her safety.”
