It was a bit of “instant karma” for an alleged dog abuser when a Florida martial arts instructor witnessed him hitting and kicking his dog and took steps to bring the abuser to justice.
“We noticed a gentleman chasing a dog around, and the dog was cowering. And he was shouting obscenities at it, and every time he’d get close, he was swinging and/or kicking at it,” Dennis Davidson, a black belt and instructor of Brazilian jiujitsu at American Top Team Martial Arts in Rockledge, told WESH.
When Davidson confronted the animal abuser, John Snell, Snell began threatening Davidson’s wife, shouting obscenities and pointing toward her. When he began to approach her, Davidson sprung to her defense, putting Snell in a choke hold and holding him on the ground until police arrived.
Police arrested the dog’s owner on charges of battery and animal abuse. The dog was taken into custody to a nearby shelter. Davidson and his wife want to adopt the dog they helped to rescue.
“We’re animal lovers, have several dogs and live on a big property with a fence. Hopefully, we’ll get the dog and it’ll live out the rest of its life with happiness,” Davidson said.
