Thankfully it was a good Samaritan that found a young pit bull tied to a chain link fence in West Scranton, Pennsylvania, along with a handwritten sign that read, “Free dog, please take.”

The dog, estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old, was found on Thursday where officials with Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Lackawanna County say he was left for 2 days without food or water.

He is currently being held at the Griffin Pond shelter where, unless an owner steps forward to claim him, he’ll eventually be placed for adoption.

Anyone with information about the dog or an owner’s identity is urged to contact area police or the shelter.
